An upper part of the river is 7,729m long, coming out from Phong Nha cave doors in Phong Nha village, Son Trach commune, Bo Trach district and flowing under the limestone mountains in Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park. It meets the Gianh river near Ba Don town.
